Is a car worth it for a few days in Ankara?
For the city alone, probably not. Anitkabir, the citadel and the Museum of Anatolian Civilisations are all reachable by metro and taxi. A car makes sense the moment you want Hattusa, Cappadocia or the Black Sea coast, which are all long but straightforward drives on good dual carriageways from Esenboga airport or the city.
What is driving and parking like in the centre?
Kizilay and Cankaya are busy from late afternoon and street parking is scarce, so use the multi-storey car parks or your hotel's spaces. Winter brings snow and ice on the plateau from December to March, so pick a car with winter tyres if you plan to drive out of town and check the conditions shown per car.
What licence do I need?
A full driving licence held for at least a year is the usual requirement, and each company sets its own minimum age and young-driver conditions. If your licence is not in the Latin alphabet, bring an International Driving Permit alongside it. The exact conditions for every car are shown before you book.
