Should I pick up at the airport or in the city?
If you are heading straight out of Athens, pick up at the airport, which sits on the motorway towards both the coast and the Peloponnese. If you are spending a few days in the city first, book a city pick-up for the day you leave so you are not paying for a car that sits in a garage while you walk around the Acropolis.
What kind of car suits a trip from Athens?
Most of the driving is on motorways and well-surfaced main roads, so a small or medium car is plenty and easier to park in villages and at beaches. Choose something with a bit more power if you plan to cross the mountains of the Peloponnese with a full boot, and pick automatic if you are not used to a manual in city traffic.
