Henri Coanda airport at Otopeni is north of the city on the road to the mountains, so an airport pick-up on your way out of town avoids the centre entirely. What car suits Romanian roads outside Bucharest?
A standard compact or estate is fine for Transylvania and the coast, but pick something with decent power for overtaking on the single-carriageway roads, which are the norm.
