Corfu is a long, thin island, and the drive from the south beaches up to the north coast takes far longer than the map suggests once the road starts twisting through olive groves and hill villages. Corfu Old Town is walk-only, so the car earns its keep on the coast roads to Paleokastritsa, Kassiopi and the quiet bays around Agios Georgios. Our partner network compares local and international rental companies with live prices for pick-up at the airport or in town.

Renting a car in Corfu: common questions
What kind of car suits Corfu's roads?
A small car. The roads in the north-east and the west hills are narrow, often single-track with passing places, and villages have tight corners between stone walls. A compact is easier to squeeze past oncoming traffic and to park on a narrow lane above a beach, and it uses less fuel on the long climbs.
Where should I base myself if I plan to drive around?
Somewhere central or on the east coast if you want to reach both ends of the island in day trips. The north-east around Kassiopi and Nissaki is scenic but slow to get out of, and the far south is a long run to the northern beaches. Corfu Town itself is car-unfriendly, so pick a base outside it and drive in for an evening or two.
What licence do I need?
A full driving licence held for at least a year is the usual requirement, and each company sets its own minimum age and young-driver conditions. If your licence is not in the Latin alphabet, bring an International Driving Permit alongside it. The exact conditions for every car are shown before you book.
Is there a deposit, and what about insurance?
Deposit and insurance terms differ between companies in Corfu, so they are shown per car before you book. You will see what is included, what the excess is, and whether a deposit is held on your card at the desk.
Where does the booking actually happen?
You search from this page and see live cars and prices on our partner’s site. When you choose one, the booking completes on their secure checkout, where you confirm the details and receive your voucher. Show the voucher at the desk on pick-up.
