Do I need a car to see Gdansk, Sopot and Gdynia?
No. The SKM train runs between all three every few minutes and the old town of Gdansk is pedestrian. Pick up the car for the days you drive out to Hel, Malbork or the Kashubian lakes, and choose an airport or city pick-up point depending on where you are staying.
When is driving on the coast easiest?
June and September give warm days and open roads. In July and August the single road along the Hel peninsula fills with beach traffic and can take hours at weekends, so leave early or go midweek. Winters are grey but quiet, and Malbork and the old town are fine year round.
What licence do I need?
