Which Istanbul airport should I pick up from?
Istanbul Airport on the European side is the main international hub and suits trips west towards Edirne, Gallipoli or the Black Sea coast. Sabiha Gokcen on the Asian side is handier for Bursa, Iznik and the Anatolian side of the city. Choose the airport that matches your flight and your direction of travel.
When is the best time for a road trip out of Istanbul?
Spring and autumn are ideal, with mild weather, tulips in April and clear days in October. Summer is hot and city traffic heavier, though the Black Sea beaches at Sile and Agva are at their best. Winter driving is fine but shorter days and occasional snow inland make planning your return worthwhile.
What licence do I need?
A full driving licence held for at least a year is the usual requirement, and each company sets its own minimum age and young-driver conditions.
