Where should I base myself on Lesvos?
Molyvos and Petra in the north give you the prettiest towns and the beaches nearby, with Skala Eressos in the west a drive away. Mytilene is the working capital and best if you want the ferry, the nightlife and a shorter airport transfer. Many visitors split their stay.
How long does it take to cross the island?
Longer than it looks. The gulfs of Kalloni and Gera force the roads inland, and the western routes to Sigri and Eressos wind through bare hills. Plan on a good part of a morning to get from Mytilene to the west coast, and treat a trip there as a full day.
What licence do I need?
A full driving licence held for at least a year is the usual requirement, and each company sets its own minimum age and young-driver conditions.
