How do motorway tolls work around Lisbon?

Where should I base myself for day trips?
Staying in Lisbon and heading out each day works well, though you will want to leave the car in a garage rather than hunt for street parking. Cascais or Sintra make calmer bases with easier parking if the coast and hills are your priority. Arrabida is an easy day trip from any of the three.
What licence do I need?
