Should I pick up at Malaga airport or in the city?
If you are heading straight down the coast or up to Ronda, the airport is easiest because it sits right on the motorway and you skip city traffic entirely. If you are spending a couple of nights in Malaga first, a city pick-up saves paying for days the car would only sit in a garage.
What kind of car suits the white villages?
A compact is the right choice. The roads to Ronda, Mijas and the villages around Grazalema are well surfaced but twisty, and the streets inside the villages are tight, with parking usually on the edge of town. Anything bigger than a small family hatchback is more stress than it is worth on those lanes.
What licence do I need?
A full driving licence held for at least a year is the usual requirement, and each company sets its own minimum age and young-driver conditions.
