Where should I pick the car up?
Most visitors collect at the airport on arrival, which suits stays on the east and south coasts. If you are based in the north around Grand Baie, or arriving by cruise into Port Louis, choose that pick-up point in the search to compare the cars offered there and skip the drive back to the terminal.
What kind of car suits Mauritius?
A small hatchback is fine for almost everything, including the coast roads and the climb to Chamarel and Black River Gorges. Air conditioning matters more than engine size, and a compact car is easier to park in Grand Baie and Flic en Flac. Choose an automatic if you are not used to driving on the left.
What licence do I need?
A full driving licence held for at least a year is the usual requirement, and each company sets its own minimum age and young-driver conditions.
