Do I need a 4x4 on Milos?
Not for the town, the port and the east side, where a small car does fine. The west of the island and several of the best beaches sit at the end of unpaved tracks, and many rental conditions exclude gravel roads for ordinary cars. If you want to reach them by car, choose a 4x4 or a small SUV and check the conditions shown per car.
Where should I base myself with a car?
Adamas, Pollonia and Plaka are all within a short drive of each other and of the airport, so pick on character rather than logistics. Pollonia is the quiet harbour at the north-east tip with the best evening light, Plaka is the hilltop village with the views, and Adamas has the most restaurants and the ferry.
What licence do I need?
A full driving licence held for at least a year is the usual requirement, and each company sets its own minimum age and young-driver conditions.
