Palanga is Lithuania's summer beach town, a pine-backed strip of sand on the Baltic with a small airport and a lively promenade from June to August. The town itself is walkable and bikeable, so a car is for the coast: Klaipeda and the ferry to the Curonian Spit to the south, the quieter dunes at Sventoji and the Latvian border to the north, and inland to the Zemaitija lakes. Roads are flat, quiet and easy. Our partner network compares local and international rental companies with live prices.

Renting a car in Palanga: common questions
Can I drive onto the Curonian Spit from Palanga?
Yes, via the short car ferry from Klaipeda to Smiltyne, then a single road runs south through the national park to Nida. Cars pay an entry fee at the park gate and the ferry queues build on summer weekends, so go early. It is one of the best day drives in the country.
When is Palanga worth the trip?
July and August are the beach months, when the town fills up and parking near the sea gets tight. June and September are quieter with long days and empty sand. Outside those months many places close and the appeal shifts to bracing walks and the amber museum, still pleasant but plan for a smaller choice of cars.
What licence do I need?
A full driving licence held for at least a year is the usual requirement, and each company sets its own minimum age and young-driver conditions. If your licence is not in the Latin alphabet, bring an International Driving Permit alongside it. The exact conditions for every car are shown before you book.
Is there a deposit, and what about insurance?
Deposit and insurance terms differ between companies in Palanga, so they are shown per car before you book. You will see what is included, what the excess is, and whether a deposit is held on your card at the desk.
