Prices and availability for Valencia come through our partner network, Localrent. Your booking completes on the partner's secure checkout.

Valencia is a city you can happily walk and cycle, so the case for a car is everything around it: the Albufera lagoon and its rice paddies just south, the beaches running north towards Sagunto and south to Cullera and Gandia, and the citrus country and castles inland. The ring road keeps through traffic out of the centre, and the older districts are a maze of one-way streets and residents-only zones best avoided by car. Local companies pick up at the airport and in town, and the cars listed here are theirs, with live prices.

Renting a car in Valencia: common questions

Do I need a car for the city itself?

Not really. The centre is compact and flat, the metro runs from the airport, and parking in the old town is expensive and tight. The better plan is to book the car for the days you want to go beyond the city, and to collect it at the airport or from an office near your accommodation.

What is the drive to the Albufera like?

Short and easy, along a flat road south of the port through rice fields to El Palmar, where the paella restaurants and boat trips are. Go in the late afternoon for the sunset over the lagoon. In September and October the fields are being harvested, which is the most interesting time to see them.

What licence do I need?

A full driving licence held for at least a year is the usual requirement, and each company sets its own minimum age and young-driver conditions. If your licence is not in the Latin alphabet, bring an International Driving Permit alongside it. The exact conditions for every car are shown before you book.

Is there a deposit, and what about insurance?

Deposit and insurance terms differ between companies in Valencia, so they are shown per car before you book. You will see what is included, what the excess is, and whether a deposit is held on your card at the desk.
