Venice itself has no roads, so a car here is for everything around it: the Prosecco hills, the Dolomites, Padua, Vicenza and the long Adriatic beaches at Jesolo and Lido di Venezia. Cars stop at Piazzale Roma or the Tronchetto car park on the edge of the historic city, and from there you walk or take a vaporetto. Pick up at Marco Polo airport or when you leave the city, and our partner network compares local and international rental companies with live prices.

Renting a car in Venice: common questions
Should I keep a car while I am staying in Venice itself?
No. The historic city is entirely car-free and the garages at Piazzale Roma and Tronchetto are expensive for multi-day stays. Do Venice on foot and by boat, then collect a car at the airport or a mainland station on the day you head for the Dolomites or the countryside.
Is Marco Polo the best place to pick up?
Marco Polo is the main airport with rental desks in the terminal and it sits right on the motorway towards Treviso and the Dolomites, so it is the easiest starting point. If you are already in the city, Mestre station on the mainland is a practical alternative that avoids the trip back to the airport.
What licence do I need?
A full driving licence held for at least a year is the usual requirement, and each company sets its own minimum age and young-driver conditions. If your licence is not in the Latin alphabet, bring an International Driving Permit alongside it. The exact conditions for every car are shown before you book.
Is there a deposit, and what about insurance?
Deposit and insurance terms differ between companies in Venice, so they are shown per car before you book. You will see what is included, what the excess is, and whether a deposit is held on your card at the desk.
Where does the booking actually happen?
You search from this page and see live cars and prices on our partner’s site. When you choose one, the booking completes on their secure checkout, where you confirm the details and receive your voucher. Show the voucher at the desk on pick-up.
